The Great Kat

Name: Katherine Thomas
Born: 1966 (Swindon, England)

Profile: She is a composer, musical revolutionary and a musician best known for her thrash metal interpretations of well-known pieces of classical music. Most feature her using electric guitar, but some have her on violin.

History: After listening to Beethoven since birth, Kat began classical piano studies at age 7, and at the age of 9, she began classical violin in New York.

At the age of 15, Kat won a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City as a violin student. Kat became the Concertmaster of the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra and won the "Robert Hufstader Scholarship" in Composition and Theory at Juilliard. She graduated with Honors and began performing, first as a classical violin soloist at Carnegie Recital Hall as winner of the exclusive "Artists International Competition" and then soloing extensively in Mexico, U.S. and Europe.

After touring the world, Kat realized that classical music was dead, so she began updating Classical Music with Speed Metal and transcribed intricate violin solos to the guitar. Kat developed a new genre of music; fast, furious and Virtuosic.

Known as the “High Priestess of Guitar Shred,” Kat was recently awarded the "12 Greatest Female Electric Guitarists" by Elle Magazine.

Influences: Ludwig van Beethoven, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimi Hendrix, Judas Priest and Paganini

Axology: Burns “Scorpion” guitar, violin, SPECIALIZED EFX and Marshall amplifiers
