Eddie (DEF GAB C)

Profile: He is a Malaysian bassist, composer and musician, most notably known for his bass guitar works with his current band "DEF GAB C". He is one of the most famous Malaysian bassist who plays 6 strings bass in a heavy rock genre.

History: He started playing guitar in his teens, but got bored because many of his friends knows how to play the instrument, so Eddie went on to try bass guitar, with his early influences such as, "Metallica", "Halloween" and "Deep Purple", he never look back ever since.

After many years practicing bass guitar, Eddie joined a small local band, which played for weddings, parties and eventually ended up in night clubs. While just started to play in clubs, his friends GG and Lola, recommended Eddie to use a 5 strings bass (due to the demand for Jazz music) and he accidentally bought a 6 strings bass, and ever since that day, the bass was his main axe for more then a decade.

In 1996, legendary guitarist Joe (Wings) discovered Eddie and his bandmates' talents in a local club in Kuala Lumpur. Joe met up with them and introduced them to the late legendary rock composer JS Kevin. The composer was amazed with the band performances and offered the band a record deal. Soon after the negotiations, JS Kevin renamed the band to "DEF GAB C", which carries the important 7 notes in music (D E F G A B C).

In 1997, "DEF GAB C" debut album, 'Citarasa' was released. It was one of the best rock album of the year, which consists hit songs, such as, 'Ibu Kota Cinta' and 'Tak Sanggup Lagi'. In 1999, the released of their second album, 'Skala', also went to the top charts with hits like, 'Cinta Sakti' and 'Ranjau Kasturi'.

Until now, Eddie and "DEF GAB C", has released 6 studio albums. The band, has won various awards, such as 'Best Rock Album' for the album 'Remifasolatido' and Anugerah Industri Musik ke 9', in 2002, to name a few. Currently, Eddie and "DEF GAB C" are busy preparing new materials and their are planning to go back to studio for the recording of their new album.

Sony (J-Rocks)

Name: Sony Ismail Robbayani
Born: Unknown

Profile: He is an Indonesian musician, better known for his guitar works in his current band, "J-Rocks" as a lead guitarist. He was known in the local guitar community since his band "J-RockStar" won a TV talent show - Nescafe Get Started in 2004.

History: Sony started to play guitar in his teens, mostly self-taught. Ever since he learned how to pick a guitar, he wanted to be a professional musician/guitarist as his idol; guitarist virtuoso Steve Vai and the legendary Jimi Hendrix.

In 2001, Sony went for an audition as a guitarist for a local band named, "Funky Kopral" (now known as "Funkop"), this is where he met up with future vocalist Iman, who gave Sony an idea to formed a Japanese genre band with him. Wima (bass) and Anton (drum) joined soon after, and "J-RockStar" was officially formed in 2003.

In 2004, "J-RockStar" (JRS) entered a TV musical talent show called 'Nescafe Get Started'. The band won at first place followed with two other great bands; "B-Five" and "Cool Khas". On the grand final concert of the talent show, "JRS" performed an adaptation music from Japanese rock band, "L'Arc~en~Ciel".

Soon after the talent show, "JRS" was offered a contract for a studio album under Aquarius Musik label, and their name was shortened from "J-RockStar" to "J-Rocks". Their debut, 'Topeng Sahabat' was released in 2005 and was sold for 450,000 copies only in Indonesia. The debut album was followed with two more albums, 'Spirit' (2007) and 'Road To Abbey' (2009). Though, Sony is still new in the music industry, he has impressively gain a lots of fans.

Rosli Mohalim (Sweet Charity)

Name: Rosli Mohalim
Born: 30th September, 1954 (Singapore)

Profile: He is a Singaporean musician, composer and a self-taught guitarist, better known for his guitar works in the 1970's legendary rock group "Sweet Charity" (AKA Singapore's "Deep Purple"). Other then music, Rosli also appreciate fine arts, he graduated from Nanyang Academy Singapore - Fine Arts in 1975.

History: He started to take an interest in music since primary school, from the influence of his brother, his brother was a music lover who always organized bands in the 60's, and every time there was a jammed session, Rosli will come along and play around with the drums. After he finished Primary 6, his brother bought him an acoustic Rossini guitar. Though Rosli did not have any interest in guitar at the time but he learn and developed some of his techniques from a friend named Fadhlin, and bought his first electric guitar when he was just starting his secondary school.

In 1970, Rosli joined a band called "Purple Grass" - which covered mostly "Deep Purple's" songs. After he graduated from school in 1975, he joined a band called "Sugar N Spice" which played mostly on clubs, this period was the era of funk and disco music, and Rosli at the time played bass guitar for the band.

In 1976, frontman Ramli Sarip and guitarist A. Ali of "Sweet Charity", met up with Rosli and asked him to joined "Sweet Charity" as a bass player replacing Wahid Warren. Ramli was very interested on how Rosli played his bass in one of the clubs where Rosli performed, but after guitarist A. Ali left the band, Rosli step up to take the guitar work and told Ramli to look for a new bassist (Rosli was replaced by the late Syed Hassan).

In 1978, "Sweet Charity" debut album was released, and it was the starting era of Rock & Roll in both Singapore and Malaysia. Followed by their second album, in 1980, 'Pelarian', this album consists of two legendary songs, such as; 'Musibah' and 'Zakiah'. Rosli and "Sweet Charity" managed to released 6 more albums until the late 80's, and did a reunion in 1996, with the original line-ups. Today, he is still in the music industry and is one of the high demand session for solo artists, both in Singapore and Malaysia.

Erros Candra (Sheila On 7/Jagostu)

Name: Eross Candra
Born: 3rd July, 1979 (Yogyakarta, Indonesia)

Profile: He is an Indonesian multi-talented musician, composer and guitarist, better known for his guitar work in "Sheila On 7" or (So7).

History: Erros was born in a musical background families, his mother was a singer, his grandfather was a saxophonist and his uncle was a professional guitar player. Since elementary school, he was exposed to the music industry by accompanied his mother to band practice in their home studio, since then he was so interested in guitar and wanted to learn more about the instrument. He got his first acoustic Kawasaki guitar on his 14th birthday from his dad (which he still kept), and started to learn classical guitar from his uncle named Rus.

In 1995, in 3rd grade junior high school, he joined in a band, but it did not last long because one of his band mates moved to the city, and the band was disbanded. While in high school, Eross was invited to joined "Dizzy band' with Icha and Adhit Jikustik, and it was at this time that his old man bought Erros his first electric guitar. In 1996, Eross acquainted with Sakti, Anton, Adam and Duta. After they went a lot of jamming together, "Sheila Gank" was finally formed on May, 1996. The band had followed 'Festival Band DIY in Yogyakarta and got first prize, and both Eross and Adam won the prize as 'The Best Guitarist' and 'The Best Bassist', respectively.

In 1998, "Sheila Gank" had the opportunity to offer demos of their songs to Sony Music Indonesia, and change the band's name to "Sheila On 7" ('Sheila' is derived from the Celtic meaning of music and 'On 7' was taken from the seven scales in music), and their debut album hit the charts and made "So7" as the new Best Indie band in Indonesia.

With "So7", Eross became the most active songwriter in this band, he also composed songs for Memes, Rio Febrian and Tasya, and both the soundtrack for the movie '30 Hari Mencari Cinta' and 'Soe Hok Gie'. In addition to "So7", Eross is also busy with his new project band, "Jagostu". However, he made sure that his new band will not interfere with the existence and integrity of the band who made him as one of the best guitarist in Indonesia.

Shah (Exists/Slam)

Name: Shah Nizam Abdul Halim
Born: Unknown (Kg. Bakar Batu, Johor Bahru, Malaysia)

Profile: He is a Malaysian multi-talented musician, composer, producer, singer and an actor. He is notably known for his works as a guitarist in most of Malaysian top and legendary bands such as "Exists", "Search" and he was the founder of "Slam".

History: He started to play guitar in his early teens, and while still in high-school, Shah joined the 'all-teens band', "Exists" in 1990. This band was the starting point for his career as a professional guitarist. The band was a successful hits in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, with the single 'Oh! Ibu'.

After "Exists" second album, Shah left the band and met up with guitarist Ajak, bassist Lili and drummer Man, together they planned to form a new band, with the help of legendary composer Saari Amri. Zamani (vocalist) was the last to joined them, and by 1993, "Slam" was officially formed.

In the mid 90's, Shah and "Slam" released hits songs such as 'Tak Mungkin Berpaling', 'Mentari Muncul Lagi' and 'Gerimis Mengundang'. After Zamani left the band in the late 90's, Shah was already one of the high in-demand sessionist, he even produced "Slam" last album, 'Selamanya...' with 80% of the songs was composed and written by him.

In 1999, Shah joined Malaysian favorite rock band, "Search", after replacing the band's long time guitarist Kid (Search). With the band, Shah as the lead guitarist only collaborated in one album, 'Selepas Banjir'. He left the band in 2000, and tried to reunite back with "Slam" as a singer and guitarist.

Currently, Shah still works in the music industry as a session guitarist and producer. He even produced the Indie band "Sunday" back in 2003 and have worked with various artist for live performances and albums.

Abdee Negara (Slank)

Name: Abdee Negara
Born: 28th Jun, 1968 (Danggala, Sulawesi, Indonesia)

Profile: He is an Indonesian guitarist, producer and sound engineer. He is notably known as the lead guitarist for the legendary rock band "Slank", after replacing Pay Siburian who left in 1996.

History: Abdee is a self taught guitar player. He started to play guitar in his early teens, and wanted to become a professional musician ever since. In the 80's, he moved from Kota Palu to Jakarta, to pursue his dreams. His first band was with Ecky Lamoh, Gideon Tengker and Henky Supit. After the band split, he became a session player for various artists, from Ermy Kulit to "Trio Kwek-Kwek".

In 1996, after guitarist Pay Siburian left "Slank", Abdee went on to audition for the legendary group. He was accepted for the post and in 1997, "Slank's" 7th studio album 'Tujuh' was Abdee's debut album with the band. The album gave new sound to the band due to Abdee's influences in blues and he even added some of his 'slide' trademarks.

From the start, when he joined "Slank", Abdee has contributed all his efforts on "Slank's" albums. Currently, he is the sound engineer and producer for the band. And he has released 7 albums altogther, from 'Tujuh' (1997), 'Mata Hati Reformasi' (1999), 'Ngangkang' (2000), 'Virus' (2001), 'Satu satu dan Bajakan' (2003) and to the latest album 'The Big Hip' {2008}.

With his tight schedules with "Slank", Abdee also collaborated and produced for other bands, such as "Seurius". He is also a clinician for the G Plus magazine and an endorser for Extreme guitars.

Rhoma Irama (Orkes Melayu Purnama/Soneta)

Name: Raden Oma Irama
Born: 11th December, 1946 (Tasikmalaya, Indonesia)

Profile: He is an Indonesian dangdut guitarist, singer and actor. During the height of his stardom in the 70's, he became the self-proclaimed 'Raja Dangdut' (King of Dangdut) with his group "Soneta".

History: His career began in the late 60's when he recorded solo records and with the group "Orkes Melayu Purnama". He sang duets on several record LPs with Indonesian female vocal stars such as Inneke Kusumawati, Ellya Khadam, Lily Junaedhy, Vivi Sumanti, and the later to be crowned 'Queen of Dangdut', Elvy Sukaesih.

It was at this period of time, a new popular music called Dangdut emerged from the slums and suburbs of Jakarta in Indonesia. The music was performed on an electrified and modernized version of the older acoustic orkes melayu orchestra and combined influences from Indian and Malaysian film music, Islamic popular music and American popular song, primarily rock.

The name dangdut is an onomatopoeic reference to the tabla-like pair of drums used in the ensemble that supply the genre with its defining rhythm: DANG dut, in which a heavy, low-sounding pitch off the beat ("dang") is followed by a light, higher pitch note on the downbeat ("dut"). The form was originally characterized by love duets between young men and women.

Once Oma broke from recording with "Orkes Melayu Purnama", he eventually formed "Orkes Melayu Soneta", the first so-called Dangdut group. In fact, Oma established the term Dangdut with a song by that name from the early 70's. He wrote the classics 'Kareta Malam' and 'Kuda Lumping' which were sung by Elvy Sukaesih. Once "Soneta" was established in the early 70's, Oma changed his name to Rhoma and went on a decade long run of successful hit records and films, all of which starred Rhoma playing himself while performing all of his hits.

During the 80's, Dangdut was synonymous with the on-stage persona of Rhoma, dressed in a tight black tanktop, headband, leather pants, gloves and boots, and playing a black flying-V guitar, sweatily glistening in heavy-metal dangdut glory-certainly a far cry from the bubblegum, coy flirtatiousness of the heavily made-up teen dangdut singers of the genre's early years. By the late 80's, Rhoma had become fabulously wealthy. During this era, he continued to record and develop an international reputation, collaborating with such legends as Lata Mengeshkar, the golden voice of Bollywood.

Today, Rhoma is still active with the dangdut and entertainment business. However, with his semi-retirement, dangdut has reverted mostly to light flirtatious songs, and today it greatly resembles other forms of more overtly Westernized Indonesian genres of popular music.

Pay Siburian (Slank/BIP)

Name: Parlin Burman Siburian
Born: 2nd May, 1970 (Pematang Siantar, Sumatera, Indonesia)

Profile: He is an Indonesia musician and lead guitarist, notably known for his guitar works in the legendary rock group "Slank". He was one of the few Indonesian guitarist featured in the album 'Gitar Klinik' and jam with Andy Timmons (Danger Danger) at the Hard Rock Cafe, Jakarta.

History: Started to play guitar since year 4 at school, and determined to make music as his career. In his teenage years, he joined various of bands, but never had the opportunity to get a deal with any major recordings.

In the mid 80's, Pay was heavily influenced by Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai (at that time, Vai was still with David Lee Roth's band). With the help of these influenced, Pay started to play rock and heavy music.

In 1989, he joined "Slank", a rock group from Jakarta. Pay who at that time knew a few major producers, try his luck to sent the band's demos. Eventually, the band got a deal for an album and in 1990, "Slank" released their debut album 'Suit-Suit....Hehehe (Gadis Sexy)'. The album was a hit and received a lot of positive reviews, and the band was known as the new Indonesia Rock group, after "God Bless".

In 1996, after releasing 5 albums with "Slank", Pay quit the band. After four long years leaving "Slank", he formed a new rock band called "BIP", with other former "Slank" members (bassist Bongky and keyboardist Indra). With this new lineup (joined by drummer Jaka and vocalist Irang Perdana), "BIP" has released 4 albums, 'Turun dari Langit' - (2001), 'Min Plus' - (2002), 'The Best of .....' - (2003) and 'Udara Segar' - (2004).

Pay also collaborated with Ronald, vocalist Once (Dewa19) and the late vocalist Andy Liany to formed "Fargat 27". The band released their only album 'Seribu Angan'.

Kaori Muraji

Name: Muraji Kaori (村治 佳織)
Born: 14th April, 1978 (Tokyo, Japan)

Profile: She is a Japanese classical guitarist, and the first Japanese artist to have signed an exclusive international contract with Decca Music Group. She is considered as one of the most prominent classical guitarists of today, and her challenges and activities are always regarded with keen interest by the entire classical music community.

History: Kaori received her first lessons on the guitar from her father Noboru Muraji at the age of 3. From 10, she continued her studies with the renowned guitarist Shinichi Fukuda. From quite early on, her presence was dominant in competitions, winning the 1989 Junior Guitar Competition, and the 1991 the Student Guitar Competition for all categories.

In 1992, Kaori won both the Leo Brower International Guitar Competition (Tokyo) and the Tokyo International Guitar Competition. In 1993, she gave her debut recital at Tsuda Hall in Tokyo, which was soon followed by the release of her debut CD 'Espressivo'. Her orchestra debut came in 1994 with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 1995 she joined Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI as soloist in Turin. This concert, which was broadcasted on TV throughout Europe, marked her European debut.

Kaori continued on with her musical education, and in 1997 she went to study under Albert Ponce at Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. In 1999, she had the extraordinary opportunity to perform for the legendary Joaquin Rodrigo's compositions, 'Tiento antigno' and 'En los trigales'. With her graduation from Ecole Normale that year, she returned to Japan to vigorously pursue her solo career. She performed with the major orchestras of Japan, including the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and gained a wide national following.

In the meantime, Kaori’s musical world continued to expand: her first chamber music collaboration came in 2000 when she joined the Vogler Quartet on their Japan tour, and her long time wish to perform in other Asian countries was realized as she gave her first Korean recital at the Seoul Arts Center.

Kaori’s international relationships continued to flourish. In 2006/07 season, Kaori participated in La Folle Journee de Nantes, had some recitals in west coast of USA. In 2008/09 season, Kaori toured in Japan and Korea with Bachochester des Gewandhauses zu Leipzig and Orchestre de Chambre National de Toulouse. In April 2009, she invited the Spanish orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia as a soloist of their subscription concert.

Tomo Fujita

Name: Tomo Fujita
Born: Unknown

Profile: He is a Japanese guitarist and an assistant professor in Berklee College of Music (Guitar Department). He is also a columnist for Japanese guitar magazines.

History: His love in music started when he was young, and determined to be a musician ever since. He went to Berklee College of Music, where he met and studied with Jazz-guitarist Joe Pass. Tomo earned a degree at Berklee College of Music and has been a faculty member at Berklee since 1993. Perhaps the most famous of his former Berklee students are "Soulive" guitarist Eric Krasno (Kraz) and John Mayer.

After he graduated from Berklee College, Tomo was interested in discovering more about the blues. He listened to all the records of legendary BB King and T-Bone Walker, and started playing with blues bands. He could play blues technically, but emotionally he could not connect himself to the music, he then started (experimenting) playing gospel music at church every Sunday, to capture the 'feel'.

He possesses all the elements of great musicianship; astounding technical ability, flawless rhythm skills, and a total command of his instrument. In his private lessons, he teach fundamental techniques for playing good music — by getting a good tone from the guitar and keeping a good rhythm. He discovered in playing blues songs, it was very difficult to achieve quality and the details, that is why he teach a lot of grooves and rhythm. It is very important for him, to emphasize expression, tone and time.

Tomo has performed with some of the best artists in the world, including Phil Collins, John Mayer, James Genus (Saturday Night Live), Will Lee (Late Show with David Letterman), Kenwood Dennard, bassist Jaco Pastorious, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith, Darryl Jones, Miles Davis, Sting, the "Rolling Stones", Paul Jackson, Ronnie Earl, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Steve Jordan and Susan Tedeschi.

Tomo is also affiliated with the major music schools in his native Japan. His articles have been published in the Japanese magazines 'Jazz Life' and 'Jazz Guitar', and he is a regular contributor to the Japanese edition of 'Guitar magazine'. His instructional materials are especially popular in Japan, where guitar players have bought more than 100,000 copies of his videos and books.
Tomo also enjoyed a guitar-playing gig in a Boston production of the musical 'Rent'. And, currently, Tomo is touring to promote his newly released album 'Pure', and he usually presents clinics annually in Japan.

History: Started to play guitar as a hobby since he was 14, in SMA with his guitar buddy Kinwie. The both of them was influenced by 80's rock music, such as; "Cacophony", "Duran Duran" and "Firehouse", to name a few. Mayzan first electric guitar was a Prince. Marty Friedman (Cacophony/Megadeth) is Mayzan favorite guitarist since 1988 and was a big influence for him until now, and this is the reason why he took guitar and music as a career.

In 1992, Mayzan moved from Sumatera to Jakarta, and seriously learned the 'art of electric guitar', he even bought his first Ibanez guitar an 'RG550'. Late that year, he and his friend, Wiwik Wibowo, formed a heavy metal band which covered songs such as "Megadeth", "Extreme", "Dream Theater", Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker and Vinnie Moore.

In 1994, Mayzan started to play 7-strings guitar for the band. The next year, he started to take violin lesson and bought a ZETA electric violin (influenced by the violinist Vanessa Mae). In late 1997, he met with Della Abdullah who taught Mayzan all about the internet, and after being with the band for almost 5 years, he made a decision to quit the band and concentrate on doing business. With this business, he did what he love most which was music and webhosting.

He then bought the name domain for VanessaMae.com, MartyFriedman.com and YngwieMalmsteen.com. At first, his intention was to make it as a fansite, but later on he change his mind and created an unofficial website for Vanessa Mae in 1997 and Marty Friedman in 1999 (though he never meet with his idols at that time) - but in 2002, Friedman contacted him, and wanted Mayzan to do an official website for Friedman.

Around 2001, Mayzan found out that it was very difficult to look for any information regarding Indonesian guitarist in the web. He then got the idea to create a guitarist community website; www.DewaGitar.com in 2001 (later change to www.Gitaris.com). In 2002, Mayzan got his first Jackson guitar from Marty Friedman as a present by doing his official website.

Starting 2004, Mayzan was very busy because; he had collaborated with "Fahrenheit's" guitarist Javier Bassino to create his official website and his band official website fehrenheit.com. He also released his album, titled; 'Gitar Klinik 2', which received good reviews from the internet as well as in Indonesia. Marty Friedman was also featured in this album as a guest guitarist. Other artists who had Mayzan's touch in creating their website was; heavy metal band "MNEMIC" in 2005, Dino Cazares & Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory), Michael Amott (Arch Enemy) and Gus-G (Dream Evil) in 2006.

Tohpati (Simak Dialog)

Name: Tohpati Ario Hutomo
Born: 25th July, 1971 (Jakarta, Indonesia)

Profile: He is an Indonesian songwriter and a well known jazz guitarist. He has collaborated with many Indonesian musicians such as Glenn Fredly, Indro, Arie Ayunir and Shakila. Many of his work has traditional culture elements as he always try to combine both modern and traditional Indonesian music on his albums.

History: Since his early age, Tohpati has already interested to become a musician and often played on many shows around Jakarta, although it was not as a professional career. As a result of his effort, he had won the title 'Best Guitarist' at a band festival in Jakarta when he was just 14.

In 1989, four years after he won the title, he won another notable award of the 'Best guitarist' in Java. This award then contributed a major part in Tohpati's music experience as his name began to be noticed because he won another 'Best guitarist' award in 'Yamaha Band Explosion' show the same year.

After winning a series of awards, Tohpati decided to begin his professional career. His professional career began in 1993 when he joined a band called "Simak Dialog" with Riza Arshad, Arie Ayunir and Indro. With this band, Tohpati had released 3 albums, which were 'Lukisan', 'Bauk' and 'Trance/Madison'.

In 1998, Tohpati decided to start a solo career and released his first debut album. The album includes a collaboration with two pop singers in Indonesia Shakila and Glenn Fredly. To gained more popularity, he released two video clips of one of his songs on the album, 'Lukisan Pagi'. The video clip was a success and the song made its way to the Indonesian charts.

His second album, 'Serampang Samba' offered more instrumental hits. Quite different with the last album, Tohpati only included one song with vocals on the album, titled 'Jejak Langkah Yang Kau Tinggal'. This was also the only song with a video clip. This album consists of more traditional Indonesian music with more acoustic sounds and Balinese elements. It can be said that this album is more idealist and progressive compared to his previous album.

Tohpati was also one of the guitarist in the famous trio supergroup "Trisum", along with Dewa Budjana (Gigi) and Balawan (Batuan Ethnic Fusion).

Hardee (The Seeds)

Name: Mohammad Shuhardi Mat Salleh
Born: 8th May, 1978 (Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei)

Profile: He is a Bruneian musician, composer, a talented guitarist and the co-author of 'Master Class Fingers - Guitar Finger Workouts' book. He is a self taught guitarist, notably known for his acoustic guitar works in the famous duo-group "The Seeds". A person who appreciates all genres of music from classical songs, folk songs, Jazz and his love in arts. He is also a fan of collecting action-figures and love animals (mainly reptiles).

History: His love in music aroused after the influence of his cousins, which made his interest bloom in guitar but he did not take it seriously due to lack of instruments and guidance. At the age of 14, his grandfather bought him a used Vision electric guitar with a Marshall amplifier; it was his first electric guitar. He got bored with the electric guitar and stop playing for 12 months. After that period of time, he bought his first acoustic guitar (an Aria Pro) with his own earnings.

In 1996, after watching live stage performance in high school, he was determined to take guitar seriously, and learned the art of finger style, slapping, tapping and percussion just at the age of 18. In 2004, he met a fellow Filipino musician named Ronee Miclat aka Rosli (he was a former music teacher at Yamaha Music School in Philippines), Ronee was responsible in guiding Hardee's path in his music career.

While under Ronee's music guidance, Hardee was given an assignment to form his own band and ended meeting with a local songwriter Eswandee Salim, who later told him, that vocalist Dillah Othman was vacant and also looking to form a new band. At that time, there was an upcoming songwriting contest for '2006 Father's Day'. With chemistry for the both of them (Hardee and Dillah) they formed "Dil & Hardee" and entered the contest with the song 'Mahkota Hati', composed by Eswandee.

In 2006, they changed their name to "The Seeds" and released their EP album 'Rahsia Hati' which made them famous in the local music scene and East Malaysia. Another song from the album 'Kau Tetap Milikku' was fully arranged by Hardee. With these songs, "The Seeds" had received various of awards including 'Best Duo-group' and 'Song of the Year 2007'. In 2007, "The Seeds" was officially an ambassador for 'Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BDNAB)' and 'Kau Tetap Milikku' was the #1 song for Kristal FM 'Top 300 songs'.

In 2008, "The Seeds" decided to experiment with new sounds and new environment for the upcoming album, with the help of a new composer named I-Sam (who composed 'Cerita Aku dan Dia'), the single 'Cerita Aku dan Dia' burst to the charts at #1 for 11 weeks. In this album Hardee have started to composed a few songs. This album sold couple of thousand copies with high demands from local music stores and won them 'Best Duo-group' for the second time and was nominated for 'Best song of the Year 2008'.

Early in 2009, "The Seeds" went on hiatus, after Hardee went on to experiment more sounds and seeking a way to express himself with his own music, he managed to collaborate with a young and talented Chinese singer named Peipei, and formed a side-project band named "Hardee & Peipei" which released an English song 'Perfect' and a Malay song 'Cinta Kita' and went for a tour. Due to this commitments, Hardee was unable to attend any interviews and performances with vocalist Dillah for "The Seeds". In between those time, Hardee was also in the process of publishing his first guitar book entitle 'Master Class Fingers - Guitar Finger Workouts' with the help of his fellow friend Jun Cesar, the book took half a year to finish and was sold thousands of copies.

Recently, Hardee is compiling new materials and composing some new songs for their upcoming "The Seeds" new album, and he is looking forward to publish a new book - this upcoming book will focus mainly in guitar techniques and compilations of songs from local folk songs to international songs. He also hopes that one day, he could bring local music scene to an international success.

Miki Berenyi (Lush)

Name: Miki Berenyi
Born: 18th March, 1967 (London, UK)

Profile: She is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. She was the lead singer of now disbanded group "Lush". She is mixed Japanese and Hungarian parentage, and currently she works for a magazine as a sub-editor.

History: Berenyi actually did not learn guitar formally, she just started to play guitar after forming "Lush" in 1988. At the age of 14, Berenyi met her friend and future bandmate, Emma Anderson. They became interested in music and together wrote the music fanzine 'Alphabet Soup'. Berenyi first music instrument was bass guitar while she was with the band, "The Bugs" and later went on to play with "I-Goat", "Fuhrer Five", and "the Lillies".

In 1988, Berenyi studied English literature at North London Polytechnic, where she met Emma Anderson (guitar) and Meriel Barham (vocal), and they decided to form their own band. When Barham left, the remaining members of "Lush" placed ads in local papers looking for Barham's replacement, but they could not find the singer they wanted, and Berenyi took over the vocals.

By 1990's, "Lush" supported opening tours for "Loop" and the "Darling Buds". Throughout those year, the band's reputation in the British music press began to grow as they released the acclaimed EP's 'Mad Love' and 'Sweetness and Light', played high-profile gigs like the 'Glastonbury Festival', and became favorites of the music weeklies' gossip columns.

'Gala', an album compiling their three EPs, became the band's first American release at the end of 1990. "Lush" spent most of 1991 recording their debut album, releasing the 'Black Spring' EP in the spring and their debut album, 'Spooky' in 1992, reaching the British Top Ten and topping the U.K. indie charts.

After "Lush" disbanded, Berenyi appeared as guest on "The Rentals" album 'Seven More Minutes'. Miki has also contributed vocals to a remix of a 'Flat 7' track by Robin Guthrie and appearing on four tracks as a guest vocalist for "Seinking Ships" on their debut album released in 2008.

Prisa (Dead Squad/Morning Star)

Name: Prisa Adinda Arini Rianzi
Born: 6th January, 1988 (Jakarta, Indonesia)

Profile: She is one of the few female guitarist in Indonesia, and was famously known after featuring in one of J-Rocks' song 'Kau Curi Lagi'. She is a young talented musician, singer and guitarist.

History: While staying at her high school's female dormitory, she started to play guitar (coincidentally), using a friend's guitar. Eventually, after been scolded many times by the guitar owner she was determined to took guitar lesson.

In early 2000's, Prisa was known to the underground scene with the all female heavy metal band "Zala". It was in 2006, where her band and Prisa, herself, make success in the Indonesian music industry, after she was offered to model and as a spoke person for 'Gitaris.com' in events and media conferences.

On June 2006, Prisa joined guitarist Stevie Item (Andra & The Backbone) to formed a new band called "Dead Squad". On July, the same year, she collaborated with Indonesian virtuoso Eet Sjahranie and his band "EdanE" at PRJ. Prisa also signed a 2 year contract as additional guitarist and backing vocal for "Sheila On 7's" album 'Band Sejuta Copy', and followed the band's tour in Indonesia and Malaysia.

In 2007, Prisa featured in "J-Rocks'" song 'Kau Curi Lagi' as a vocalist and guitarist for their second album. A few months later, she released her debut album. Prisa also had a side project band called "Morning Star", in this band she mainly sang and used acoustic guitar.

On July 2007, Prisa was endorse by Jackson guitars for their Jackson DKMG Arch Top. It was a phenomenal moment for every Indonesian musician because she was the first and only guitarist in Indonesia to be endorse by Jackson guitars. In 2008, Prisa released her second solo album entitled 'Muka Dua'.

Vicky Sianipar

Name: Vicky Sianipar

Profile: He is a multi-talented musician, music arranger, composer and guitarist who plays music while preserving the ethnic culture of Indonesian music.

History: This Batak native started studying music when he was 6 years old and studied classical piano and guitar into his teen years. He played music professionally since high school, where he discovered his true love of new age and world of music.

In late 90's, he ditched his job in the family business and in 2001 began dedicating himself to music full time as a solo artist who played, arranged and produced his own album.

His first album called 'Toba Dream' claimed as the best selling World Music Album in Indonesia. The album was also awarded by 'Akedemi Musik Indonesia (AMI)' as the 'The Best World Music Artist'. His singles like 'Piso Surit' and 'Beta Hita' stays on MTV and local radio charts for weeks, also was known as the first ethnic new age music that was able to enter media's chart ever. He is, then, claimed as the youngest best selling Indonesian World Music artist that make him the icon of Indonesian World Musicians.

In his last four albums, Vicky has created music inspired by the music of north Sumatra (the birthplace of his ancestors). He is driven to learn and experiment with Batak music and instruments while updating their sound with modern keyboards and electronics. He continues to collaborate with musicians on other ethnics such as Javanese, Sundanese and Malay.

In 2006, he released 'Indonesian Beauty' an album where he experiment and produce all of his music in his state of the art studio complex in Jakarta called 'Vicky Sianipar Music Center', where he hopes to produce other groups dedicated to promoting and modernizing the traditional sounds of Indonesia.

Dewa Budjana (Gigi)

Name: Dewa Gede Budjana
Born: 30th August, 1963 (Waikabubak, Indonesia)

Profile: He is an Indonesian guitarist, songwriter and composer, best known as the lead guitarist and songwriter of the band "Gigi".

History: Like many other guitarists, Dewa did not really have a formal education in music, however, his grandparents, played traditional 'gamelan' music in their spare times. His first guitar teacher was a construction worker who lived nearby his house. The passion grew stronger, and was nurtured when the boy moved to big city of Surabaya, where he took a classical music course when he was in high school, performed with a band, and indulged in dozens of music performances.

Dewa is initially into pop and rock, and his style veered heavily into jazz. He then established a jazz band called "Squirrel", which was pretty popular in the local scene. After graduation, he went to Jakarta to pursue a career as professional musician. He came across jazz maestro, the late Jack Lesmana, who taught Dewa the philosophy of jazz.

After a period of club performances, Dewa's skill later attracted many artists to collaborate with. He even joined several bands, such as "Spirit" and "Java Jazz", as well as working for noted musicians like Erwin Gutawa, Elfa Secioria and Addie MS.

In 1994, despite growing reputation as a top-notch guitarist, Dewa personal taste is actually pretty eclectic, which brought him to establish pop group "Gigi", the group survives until now, and still hailed as one of the biggest pop bands in the country.

He also manages to release four solo albums whose music is an amalgamation of jazz, pop and traditional music. His debut in 1997, 'Nusa Damai', was a collection of compositions he wrote ever since he knew how to play the instrument. In 2000, 'Gitarku' was released, a purely instrumental album with therapeutic and meditative sound. 'Samsara' followed three years later, an album highlighted with traditional Kalimantan flute and Japanese Shamisen. The album was a reflection of his journey and experience of working with international musicians, such Peter Erskine and bassist Dave Carpenter.

Name: Jusuf Antono Djojo
Born: 29th October, 1950 (Malang, Indonesia)

Profile: He is an Indonesian guitarist and songwriter, best known as "God Bless" lead guitarist since 1974,and "Gong 2000" in 1991 - 1996. Ian also recognized as one of the very first rock guitarists in Indonesia.

History: Originally, Ian was interested in playing drums, where he began to learn since his earlier years. However, when he started to listen to "The Shadows" music, he changed his mind and began to learn guitar.

In 1970, Ian Antono went to Jakarta and joined a band called "Bentoel" which was a session band for famous singer Emilia Contessa and "Trio The King". Later, his popularity increased while he gained many experiences - which made him join the legendary Indonesian Rock band "God Bless".

By joining "God Bless", Ian had started his first professional music career with Achmad Albar (vocalist), and released 'Huma Di Atas Bukit' in 1975, 'Cermin' in 1980 and 'Semut Hitam' in 1989. With these albums, Ian's popularity jumped through the roof due of rock music at that time had not become an atmosphere in Indonesian music scene. So while "God Bless" pioneered rock music in Indonesia, Ian Antono lead the way into a new rock guitarist world.

In 1989, Ian decided to form a band called "Gong 2000" with vocalist Achmad Albar and released three more albums, 'Timur' in 1991, 'Laskar' in 1994 and 'Prahara' in 1996. His style of playing in "Gong 2000" was different compared to when he was with "God Bless". With this new band, Ian tried to include Balinese music into most of his songs. This was followed by including at least 20 Balinese dancers in his performances.

In 1997, he work together with his former bandmates "God Bless" adding a well-known local guitarist, Eet Sjahranie. This concept of duo guitarists grabbed media and listeners attention although the album 'Apa Kabar?' was not a commercial success.

Other than becoming a lead guitaris, he also written songs for numerous other singers. Some of them are notable Indonesian artistes, such as Iwan Fals, Anggun, Nicky Astria, Doel Sumbang, Gito Rollies, and Ikang Fawzi. Moreover, many songs that he has arranged for other musicians have become some of the most popular songs of their time, like 'Zakia' and 'Panggung Sandiwara'.

In 1999, Ian Antono was invited in a Formula-1 event, which was also a collaboration with G3 (Joe Satriani and Steve Vai) and rock legends, "Jethro Tull". It was at this time, Ian studied most of Vai's equipments which he will not gain in Indonesia. Apparently, because of this reason, Ian has owned an Ibanez JEM77, a Steve Vai signature series.

Herman Li (DragonForce)

Name: 李康敏 (Lǐ Kāng Mǐn)
Born: 3rd October, 1976 (Hong Kong)

Profile: He is the lead guitarist, backing vocalist, musician, songwriter and producer in the power metal band "DragonForce". He speaks Cantonese, English and French fluently. Herman draws influences from rock, metal as well as video game music and mimics sounds from popular retro games from the late 80's, early-90's arcade and PC games. His playing style consists of fast descending and ascending licks, extreme use of the whammy bar, quick sweep picking and tapping on the higher frets.

It is a little known fact that Herman is left-handed but learned to play right-handed. Recently, he has begun to use a device called the Hot Hand that sits on his right hand like a ring, which causes extreme vibrato when shaken, giving him greater capacity to emulate certain video game sounds.

History: Herman is a self-taught musician, learning mostly from listening to his favourite music, watching videos and playing a lots of retro video games and arcades. After having played in a number of underground rock and metal bands in London, Herman decided the only way for him to move forward, is to form a band instead of joining one. In the summer of 1999, Herman found a number of musicians in the UK to kick start a new band now known worldwide as "DragonForce".

In between intensive world tours with "DragonForce", Herman found time to write a monthly guitar column in UK's 'Total Guitar' magazine. He has also given many guitar clinics around the world, showcasing his own approach to the instrument to help inspire guitarists around the globe. As well as evolving as a player, Herman likes to understand his instrument as much as possible. He is heavily involved in electric guitar development, working on new ideas to improve the instrument as much as possible.

Outside of music, Herman's interests includes technology, martial arts and when not touring, enjoys training in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu five days a week.

Influences: Oddly Herman draws influences from video game music and mimics sounds from popular retro games from the late 80's, early-90's arcade, and PC games, example; several Pac-Man-type noises in the song 'Through the Fire and Flames' on 'Inhuman Rampage'. In 'Black Fire', the middle of the solo sounds similar to music in the beginning of the game 'Double Dragon'.

Profile: He is one of the top Indonesian guitarists and widely known as a guitarist of a popular rock band "EdanE". He is also a producer for various albums mainly local Rock artist. Rumors has it, that his last name 'Sjahranie' was taken from the surname of legendary guitarist 'Joe Satriani' as a symbol of recognition for his favorite idol.

History: His love in music started when he was just 6, with the help of great music from "Deep Purple", "Bee Gees", Jimi Hendrix, "Led Zeppelin" and "The Beatles", but after seeing guitarist Yon Koeswoyo of "Koes Plus" (legendary band from Indonesia) played guitar - it made him to take guitar as his instrument. His first guitar lesson was from a 'Parking-guy' in front of his school in Kalimantan, everyday after school, he and his friends will learn guitar lesson with the guy - from Folk songs, Dangdut and even Pop songs.

Eet also learned guitar lesson from his sister who studied classical guitar, he then realize with this extra knowledge in classical he wanted to explore more about this unique instrument. Knowing his commitment in this instrument, Eet's parents bought him his first electric guitar, with this new instrument he then started to explore and experiment all sorts of sounds.

In 1978, he joined 'Festival Band SLTA' in Jakarta, which won him the title "Best Guitarist of the Year", and then formed a band called "WOW", but when the band released their debut album, Eet went to the US to attend 'Workshop Recording Sound Engineering' for 3 months. When he went back to Jakarta, he met with Jockie Surjoprajogo, who invited him for the position of guitarist in "God Bless" (legendary Rock band from Indonesia) replacing Ian Antono.

As a guitarist, Eet wanted to release a solo album, he choose Ecky Lamoh as vocal, but Eet change the format of the album to a duo album with the title 'E and E', from the initials of Eet and Ecky. In the middle of recording, the both of them change their mind from a duo to a supergroup album by adding drummer Fajar S. and bassist Iwan Xaverius, and with this the band "EdanE" was formed.
